We are in peak color up here in Michigan and I thought it would be cool to sit in the passenger seat and follow the drone down a covered colorful road. Will this mess with this work or will it go into fly home mode or do I just have to fly in manual mode?

Its been done a time or two. Even watched a video on here with a long range run, I believe 10 miles. Ironically the end of flight was a pretty hard crash from complete battery drain.

You can over ride the RTH if it occurs.

I've done it, traveled about a mile and back no problem in GPS. As long as you're close enough to retain a good connection between the phantom and tx it won't initiate RTH. Keep in mind you're in a mostly metal box so the signal won't be as strong as normal.

Maybe you're thinking of this flight?

It ended at ten miles because he had set the limits to ten miles and when it hit that limit, it landed.

You could reset home position multiple times to overcome any limit.

I had my wife dry the car as I was flying....

The new DJI Vision App has a mode where the current location from your GPS enabled smartphone is sent to the phantom every 2 seconds as the new home point.
