Can I disconnect power to the Gimbal

I was wondering if I can disconnect the gimbal power and fly with the camera turned on but just hanging without burning anything out? I am trying to hear through the camera audio to see if I still get a loud shuttering sound with the gimbal shut down? P2 with 3d.

Yes but I would take the gimbal off and use a fixed GP mount

Just don't disconnect it while the Phantom is powered up.
