Broken Bracket

Hi there, today my Phantom lost control and straight dropped hitting the ground pretty hard. Luckily too much damage wasn't done besides the bracket holding the Zenmuse Gimbal braking. (Look at the picture)

Does anyone know where you could get a replacement part?

Thanks,
Spencer (Seattle, WA)

When it stock......check out Dronefly.com

Never pay full price Chief !!
(except for batteries and props that is...)

The Shapeways plastic is far too flexible.
I bought a set of mounts that someone had created and they were so bendy that they went straight in the bin rather than risk my Zenmuse.

Buy the proper one.

I agree...........in this hobby there is no room for cutting corners or trying to save a few bucks. The consequences are far too risky.

Mines also bent and only one screw thread hole is cut on only one side.. Basically can be bent hammered back ? ₹4000 or $65 for the plates are
Does it make a difference I'll let you know in 24 hrs.

Same thing happened to me, so I'm posting here as well for posterity:

I really just broke the bottom piece and lost two of the plastic screws. The remaining plastic screws are bent, so I need more of those too.

$75 seems like a lot for the bracket but not finding many alternatives that I'm comfortable with. Also, I can't tell if new plastic screws come with the bracket or not.

UPDATE: I ended up ordering replacements from: https://www.rcdepothobbies.com/default.asp

it will work. and is much cheaper

Do you have any pictures of this alternative bracket on the P2?

Had a epic crash on the weekend flying at night. Clipped a tree bounced on the road, shot back up into the tree and proceeded to chop it up like a chainsaw, smashed into the power lines and came crashing back down.

The thing had a mind of its own once it crashed. Go pro is now chipped around the edges although the lens didn't get damaged THANK GOD!

Mounting bracket got bend and warped and lost some of the anti drop screws, had to replace the propellers. Oh and my gimbal is partially broken! It will still be level with a new bracket but the angle adjustment is seized. I can aim it at a certain angle so I can still film I just don't have the ability to adjust it mid air any more :(

Ah man..expensive hobby.. replacement mount is $90 and anti drop screws $50.. although I'm going to hold off on those and just use cable ties.. serves the same purpose. A new gimbal will have to come at a later date as that is going to cost me around $400

I have two broken brackets each time the same part/section fails. I am left wondering why the makers of this bracket cannot see the structural weakness around the two holes when're screws secure to the gimbal bar. I acknowledge that weight is a consideration in the design but I would prefer to see more support around these mounting holes. What does other have to say?

rilot and FangsCPO --

You can buy the "proper one" for $75, but it is fundamentally flawed as the aluminum is much too thin around the holes. All the pictures of people's broken brackets show it has failed in the same spots -- right where the aluminum thins around the holes. The $75 replacement from DJI will fail in exactly the same way. Using my micrometers I measured the width of the metal around the holes -- 0.024 in or 0.6 mm - completely inadequate.

Don't confuse flexibility for weakness - the shapeways plastic bracket is much stronger than the original aluminum, and the slight flex in the plastic is a good thing -- it will slightly flex in a crash rather than break like the original, and will also help with vibration dampening (not to mention the price). This is just like cast iron vs. steel. Steel is much stronger than cast iron in part because it can flex, where cast iron will break.

I'm so confused as to why anyone would pay $18 plus shipping for JUST THE LOWER BRACKET from an aftermarket 3D printer when they can buy the full bracket, upper and lower, from DJI for $20. http://1uas.com/Part-17-H3-2D-Vibration ... use%20part

And yes it fits. It also pushes the gopro out a few mm which is enough to keep the legs out of the frame. I've already shown it works on the P2.

The bracket you posted is for the Phantom 1 and will not work on the Phantom 2. The hole pattern is oriented 45 degrees different between the 2. There is no other replacement bracket for the Phantom 2 except the one from DJI for $75. (http://www.uav-outlet.com/dji-phantom-2 ... -brackets/)

NO. you are wrong. the bracket I post WILL work for the phantom 2. I know will work because I put it on my phantom 2. The P2 only bracket is metal. the P1 bracket (which fits the P2) is plastic. Thus the huge price difference.

This is the bracket you need. http://1uas.com/Part-17-H3-2D-Vibration ... use%20part

The bracket you posted pictures of that says Phantom 1, does not have the holes that line up with the P2, you are correct but that bracket is NOT the one I am talking about. This is the bracket I am talking about: http://1uas.com/Part-17-H3-2D-Vibration ... use%20part

If I am wrong, explain this:

If anyone has access to a 3D printer I have designed and uploaded files to GrabCAD for both of the gimbal brackets on the Phantom 2. Wasn't going to pay $80 odd bucks for originals and these work fine. Very strong with some flexibility.
