FPV recommendation: I use the DJI AVL 58 transmitter mounted to the bottom of my Phantom with the DJI mushroom transmitter antenna that comes with it. I use a Boscam 5802 7 inch monitor which has built in diversity receiver and built in battery. I use the DJI mushroom receiver antenna and a Circular Wireless 5-turn helical antenna on the monitor/receiver. I also have the DJI iOSD Mini mounted on the bottom of the Phantom for telemetry data. Everything works great.

So I just have to tell you guys this. I mentioned in my first post that they had asked me to video the regatta here at the lake. They really loved the results of the first time I did it with the P1 and NO gimbal (Hero 2).

So this afternoon, one of my neighbors on the lake with the sailing club sent me an email and asked me if I would be home at 4pm, they had something they wanted to show me. Well, a couple guys showed up with $700 to defray the cost of the new P2 and get me back in the air

P.S. I have read a lot of great reviews of Kumbacam....

I have a Kumbacam and it sucks. They have great customer service, but their package is inferior to what's available. My first kit wouldn't get me more than 50 feet. They replaced it with a whole new kit. The results were the same. I gave up and shelved it.

I have a Blackpearl monitor as well as Fatshark Attitude v2 goggles. I rarely use the monitor as I prefer the full immersion of goggles. I have better control versus using the monitor, but that's just my preference.

I really wanted the Kumbacam to work because they're a company with good customer service. However, there are better options for the same price if not less.

Bippin, thanks for this. A couple questions however.

Do they not make a transmitter only for the AVL 58? If there is a receiver in the LCD, the one that comes with the AVL 58 would be an extra.

Also, are you using the helical antenna because of poor performance of the Boscam antennas?

You should consider the Immersion 600mw Vtx as your transmitter. It is much smaller and lighter than the AVL 85 and used less power. When combined with the Black Pearl monitor its a great combination. More than one outfit that do commercial RE photography have switched to The Immersion/BP setup.
