Are there Gimbals that don't have motors?

Are there Gimbals you don't have to wire that just keep the camera in a stable position? I really don't want to have to take the Phantom apart and solder wires together.

The gimbals you refer to that dont have motors usually work by counter balanced weights something like this:

That concept isn't an option since even though stabilizers such as that are unpowered from an electrical sense the operator does provide corrections to the camera position via mechanical inputs.

There is no stabilizer that I'm aware of that can keep a camera pointed in a set position without some external input.

Yeah, this is true. I wonder if some kind of compass gyro would work, like the ones on ships?

I suspect any useful gyro will be out of the budget and out of the lifting capacity of the Phantom.
