Antenna orientation

I've seen antennas strait out, strait up, and in a narrow or wide v. Which do i use when?

The manual says they should be parallel to the legs of the Phantom.

Straight up and facing the drone in all instances with the exception of directly overhead when you might lay them flat (parallel to ground).

You're using vertical polarity out of the box. So you want them parallel with the antennas on your bird - which are in the legs. So you want them perfectly vertical the vast majority of the time.
