Hivemapper is an innovative Silicon Valley drone software company that’s been around for a couple of years. We’ve just announced an amazing new way to interact with aerial videos called Flight View. Here’s a blog post about it. And you can check out some nice examples on the Flight View site.

You can also contribute your own videos to Flight View. You can use their Android app or fly with the app of your choice, e.g. DJI Go, Litchi, AutoPilot, etc. There are some guidelines published to help you take videos that will make good Flight View experiences. Then you upload your videos and they are processed into 3D models (which you get for free) and are automatically added to Hivemapper Flight View. The idea is that every drone video helps grow the entire map.

Initially, contribution is very limited to just the San Francisco Bay area and we’ve come up with a list of interesting sites we’d like to gather video from first. Later, the site will be opened to contributions from other areas in California and, soon, all of the United States (sorry, no other countries for the time being).

If you have drone video footage for any of these areas across the San Francisco Bay Area they can be added to Hivemapper Flight View
  • Apple Campus 2
  • Coit Tower, SF
  • Levi's Stadium
  • Great America Park
  • Stanford Stadium
  • Google campus
  • Facebook campus
  • Shoreline Amphitheatre
  • Lick Observatory
  • Cal Academy of Science
  • Chabot Science Museum
  • University Ave, Palo Alto
  • SF City Hall
  • Sather Tower (UC Berkeley)
To add your drone videos to one of the above areas please submit them here.

If you don’t live in the San Francisco Bay Area but still want to get involved please fill out this form.
