Dear Sirs,

Please help me to fix the issue with quadcopter, described below.

Model
: Drone AEE Toruk AP11

Problem name: AEE Toruk AP11. Compass Calibration Failed

Problem description: Device indicates compass calibration failed and don’t pass compass calibration process

How to replicate problem:

  • Power on remote control unit
  • Power on main unit
  • Wait about 20 secs
  • Make sure, that connection between main unit and remote control is established and regarded status is indicated on the remote control
  • Obtain that main unit has following light indication:
  • Front indicator (green) is fast blinking ( 3 times per sec)
  • Rear indicator (red) remains ON
  • Obtain, that such indication means “Compass calibration Failed”. That it Not Good.
  • Try to make compass calibration by following steps
  • Switch S4 for more than 5 times between GPS and Follow Me mode. The quadcopter will enter calibration standby mode(the tail light blinks fast).
  • Toggle the joysticks to the position: left-top and right-top.
  • Expect front indicator (green) to start blinking to indicate that compass calibration command sent successfully
  • Obtain, that front indicator (green) is not changed and compass calibration command is no accepted. That is Not Good.
What wrong is obtained:

  • device indicates compass malfunction on step 6
  • device doesn’t accept compass calibration command on step 11
What is demanded:

device to accept compass calibration comment and pass successfully compass calibration process

Questions:

  • What could be root cause of compass calibration failed indication?
  • Could root cause to be damaged compass?
  • How to force device to accept compass calibration command?
  • How to open main unit?
  • How to found compass?
  • How to replace the compass?
  • Where to buy new compass?

In DJI drones, with a persistent compass error and recalibrating never working, the usual reason is that the compass is disconnected.
Often this is due to one of the fine wires being broken at a connection.

You may have better luck finding help in our sister forum

They cover a wider range of small consumer drones and more apt to find a member with the same drone that could offer assistance.

In addition to possible bad wiring. Most drones need to be in an open area away from large metal objects like cars and dumpsters, electrical distribution lines, concrete buildings and pavement that contains rebar, and objects like cell phones and smart watches. The calibration procedure usually calls for positioning the aircraft in certain positions in a certain order within a narrow time frame. Be sure to know the exact procedure and follow it smoothly and quickly.

UP/OUT is Gyro calibration.

Compass - Drone UPRIGHT, S4 MIDDLE to GPS x5, BOTH sticks UP/IN

SPIN drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Turn drone NOSE UP, spin drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Turn drone NOSE to 3 O’CLOCK, spin drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Place drone UPRIGHT, wait for GREEN LIGHTS ON.

Also, I usually redo all recalibrations fresh and in order below. I made this cheat sheet after getting tired of rewatching videos or rereading the manual.

AP11 Calibrations

Joysticks – Power OFF, S2 DOWN, Power ON, BOTH sticks IN

Rotate opposite directions clockwise/counter each way two times each stick (4 times total), S2 UP.

Pairing/Calibration

Pairing
– Drone ON, Controller ON, S4 MIDDLE to GPS x5

Accelerometer

Drone UPRIGHT, S4 MIDDLE to GPS x5, BOTH sticks IN / DOWN

Flip drone to UPSIDE DOWN, BOTH sticks IN/DOWN

Turn drone NOSE DOWN against wall, BOTH sticks IN/DOWN

Turn drone NOSE to 3 O’CLOCK, BOTH sticks IN/DOWN

Turn drone NOSE to 12 O’CLOCK, BOTH sticks IN/DOWN

Turn drone nose to 9 O’CLOCK, BOTH sticks IN/DOWN

Set drone back to UPRIGHT, Green lights stop flashing.

Gyroscope

Drone UPRIGHT, S4 MIDDLE to GPS x5, BOTH sticks UP/OUT

Red lights stop flashing, and calibration complete.

Compass
- Drone UPRIGHT, S4 MIDDLE to GPS x5, BOTH sticks UP/IN

SPIN drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Turn drone NOSE UP, spin drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Turn drone NOSE to 3 O’CLOCK, spin drone COUNTERCLOCKWISE X2

Place drone UPRIGHT, wait for GREEN LIGHTS ON.
