In a previous post, I commented that I installed quick disconnects (QD) for the prop protectors on my P3A. Although I believe this does give the motors some support and helps prevent cracking, I like the look and strength of the aluminum plates sold on line so I purchased a set. The problem I ran into when installing these was the screws were not long enough to go though the QD and the plate, even though the plate thickness is only 1/16 inch.
To remedy this, I drilled out the 4 rear holes on the plates so they would slide over the posts on the bottom of the quick disconnects, then i drilled a recess in the top of the QD which compensated for the plate thickness and allows me to use both..
I don't know how much added support these two items will provide, but I do heavy maneuvering and hard braking and with over 200 flights, I haven't had any problems with cracking. Maybe it was just meant to be.
