As a new comer to uav's I am having problems with interpreting the abbreviations that are used, such as ECU, GCP, etc. is there a reference to abbreviations anywhere please?

ecu is likely to be electronic control unit...
gcp -- never seen that one -- where did you see it?
"etc" -- add a list and we'll try and answer!

esc = electronic speed control
imu = inertial measurement unit

FPV = First Person View (where you can see with goggles or a monitor what your Phantom's camera sees
OSD = On Screen Display (where you can see the telemetry/altitute info on your FPV monitor/goggles)
AUW = all up weight (of your craft)
