In the current climate of crowdfunded projects that everyone pre-buys and sits and waits for a year or two before they realize they're never getting anything back, these guys demo their project in January (?) and are delivering to buyers less than 6 months later... I'll admit I didn't have a LOT...
So in my cheapness early on I was carrying my Phantom and controller in a backpack and snapped off the S1 switch.
When I opened the controller to replace the switch (not my first time opening, but I guess it "popped open" a little fast) the antenna lead pulled clean out of the micro-sma (or...
Prop imbalance can be a significant issue, it really seems to confuse the flight controller. I'm flying 9450s on my FC40 and it hasn't given me any trouble, but I balanced them before flying.
If anything I'd say you should consider REDUCING gains if you're oscillating too much. Oscillation...

Re: What's Needed To 'Upgrade' The FC40
Keep us posted! I agree the SJ4000's wifi range is absolute garbage, so I've kept using the FC40 camera for video feed but it's never pointed the same way as my gimbal is tilted so my video is crap!
Re: What's Needed To 'Upgrade' The FC40
Just remember you can't use ANY video setup that operates on the 5.8ghz band (like the iLook) unless you change out your controller transmitter/receiver.
the sj4009 WiFi model is actually way less leggy than the GoPro so it could be usable for fpv but they both have crappy range. I've been trying to work with a repeater but it's pretty unreliable, and the app kinda sucks (barely runs at all on my Kindle Fire which has the best WiFi of anything...
I've got a SJ4000 on a cheap gimbal also, and I've been flying with the FC40 cam for FPV as you describe.
I've also got somewhere around 45 minutes of video which is 95% framed completely wrong because I had no idea what my camera was pointed at.
So you've got a good reason to be asking this...
Those get significantly fatter and longer than the 4000maH, so it's gonna be a bigger project to get them to work. I don't think they'd actually fit INSIDE a P1 shell, unless you really carve up the cavity. Not sure. If so, you'll need an extended battery door, which means you're also pushing...
Good call. The best upgrade you can do right now is to buy as many batteries as you can afford (and probably an extra charger). The Hobbyking Multistar batteries are great but to use the bigger ones you'll need to carve up your Phantom a little, so I'd say at least pick up a couple of...
If you remove the camera that came with your FC40 and replace it with a GoPro, there's no 2.4ghz (wifi) link anymore. It's a part of the FC40's camera.
Prop guards definitely will have some effect in the wind, but I agree with the others; mounting dual batteries outboard of the fuselage not only has an effect on how efficiently the prop wash can clear the fuselage, it also dramatically changes the roll inertia (polar moment of inertia for those...
