some people have been asking how I did this. These are the only other photos I have; I no longer have the phantom, sold it to a friend and he is still flying it with this mod.
Take the stock battery apart though, disconnect the circuit board attached to the stock batteries and throw it away...
there are only two options:
a)stick with the dji batteries and just be careful with them when you get around 40-50 cycles.
b) buy the maxamps unlocked endcap; but realize that you will then have to purchase a balance charger and you won't have the clean look of the phantom anymore. You do get...
they're not properly balancing them, thats why the failure rate is so high and the number of cycles for most people so low. There is no way to balance two, three cell packs that are wired in parallel.. impossible.
completely wrong... the problem with dji batteries is they take two, three - cell packs and hook them together in parallel; so now the cells are not properly balance charging... there are three sets of two cells tied together and you can't properly balance charge cells in parallel.
Essentially...
to properly learn to fly the phantom one should use manual mode; access this through Naza mode in the computer... if you are flying a quadcopter you should really learn how to properly fly it without all the DJI crutches.
In manual mode you can fly indoors or anywhere... the benefit is that if...
I just weighed my bird; 1272g... my flight time is less mostly because I am only using a total of 4400mah batteries vs the stock 5400mah.
So far my cost of this mod has been zero because I had everything in my garage. So instead of having to buy new batteries for $100 each I can use all the...
a) right now only getting about 10 minutes with old 2200mah batteries
b)not really expecting a weight difference.. mostly did it to be able to use cheaper aftermarket batteries and properly balance charge them so they last longer.
c)using latest firmware; still using the top part of the...
a little bit of cutting, hacking, soldering etc and I came up with a way to hook up standard Lipos so no more having to deal with DJI crappy batteries.
thanks for the warm welcome guys; having fun flying this thing in manual mode as well. I have been flying rc helicopters for years and manual mode really makes her come alive.
flying my new to me Phantom 2 with fatshark goggles and flew it in a canyon today pretty far out of fatshark range, took the goggles off and not only couldn't see it but couldn't even hear it. Turned off my transmitter and about two minutes later I could hear it coming and next thing you know...
