Spent some time on the phone with DJI technical support trying to update firmware and reinstall apps all to no avail. DJI wants it sent back to replace with a new one. Good customer service and they are covering all the shipping costs but I'm just curious why and how this would happen to a 5...

Try a windsurfer first...they are cheap and work very well...I've been able to go well over 2 miles and still have strong signal. If that doesn't work for you then spend more money on something more advanced

I ran through two batteries yesterday and it happened both times....the first battery I flew I used Litchi on an android device and the second battery I used DJI Go on my iPad ... Same thing happened both times. I did keep the same memory card in for both flights. Did not have this issue...

I use the exact same aluminum foil windsurfer and just a couple days ago took it out to 11,800 feet and still had full signal strength with a lot of battery left. It was my first real long distance run and didn't want to get too cocky. The windsurfer works great. And to the concerned person...
