When you are "connected" it generally means you are "communicating" with that device. It could be through a physical connection (USB) or wireless.
"Logged in" generally means you are logged into a device (like router) or internet site.
I also read on dji site from a dji rep that you don't need...
I am a Software guy and was thinking as WHEN it makes sense to update firmware on my P4P. Each FW update has two lists: improvements and fixes. If I don't see myself using those features, I don't update. The problem is their update list use general words like " gimbal blah blah improvements...
I forgot. By saying that you need to be connected or logged in, they mean that the drone is flying using an app, like dji or Litchi and not in manual mode.

It is clear as mud ( I didn't know that) that GPS is for position of the drone and compass is for direction. How does that translate to the sticks controlling the drone ?
1) Does YAW (mode 2, left stick...
Thanks for replies. I guess you need several GPS satellite locks to determine where the drone is in space and compass determine the heading of drone. If in GPS lock mode, theoretically yaw only affects the compass, not GPS. Right ?
Thanks
