I'll upload a picture sometime soon. It's a tight fit but we put an iPower GBM3506 motor in there which is relatively thin. We then had to 3D print some legs extenders for the Phantom (you can sometimes see them in the videos during hard yaws, those are the yellow things on the bottom of the skids).
It is on a Phantom, it's controller-only at this point and the bad pilot is ranked among the top five 3D helicopter pilots in the world ;) I've ran out of sane scenarios to test this gimbal, so I go to the extremes :D
Unfortunately the board can't be waterproofed, but why not make a waterproof casing for it? (and one for the IMU board, of course).
Of course, not being waterproofed doesn't mean I didn't take out our precious prototype out to the rain ;) But don't do that with your boards. Seriously. They'll die.
We are only releasing the controller at this point. We have partnerships in place with several known gimbal manufacturers and we are working with them to deliver a complete solution for the Phantom.
Price will be slightly more expensive than Alexmos 3 axis, but not by much.
I know many people here wanted this video, so here it is. Strapped two GoPros on the Phantom (one fixed, the other on the gimbal), and went out shooting in the windiest day we've had here for a while:

Nearly any channel. Through the button on the RX you can move them around. For example, first setting is port 1 -> CH1, port 2 -> CH2; Second setting is port 1 -> CH1, port 2 -> CH4. And so on until you hit CH11/CH12.
The third motor for this application, depending on the manufacturer, is an addition of approximately 65g.
The ready to fly weight of the Phantom with this gimbal, with a GoPro and a Zippy 3S 2200mAH 25C battery, is about 1300 grams.
I'm using Zinger 9x5" props. It can still fly quite...
And here it is, a daytime video. At the beach in the beginning of the Israeli winter, so fair winds (Phantom is seriously fighting the position drift in GPS mode).

Watch how there's about zero jello. Some minor pitch vibrations can be seen on occasion, these...
Any reason to want conventional wiring on a Phantom? R6208SB is twice as big and nearly three times as expensive as R6303SB (I have those, too, but in larger aircraft).
R6303SB works great with the Naza on the X2 port, while still providing an extra two conventional channels for a gimbal or...
