I just finished some trials over water with and without VPS. In my opinion, the Phantom performed much better with VPS ON. I had 17 satellites and let it hover about 2 feet for several minutes. It didn't waver more than an inch in any direction. Meanwhile, I run the boat under and around it...
Ok, it's time to make a list of all your recommendations:
1. Don't push the left stick.
2. Buy a Getterback.
3. Buy insurance.
4. Practice with an RC car.
5. Buy pontoons for the Phantom.
6. Reprogram the sticks.
7. Use velcro to bind the stick.
8. Buy a Gimbal-guard
9. Don't make a boring...
I have been using Wondershare Video Editor. It handles cropping. I'm sure there are places I may want to do that. I'm really anxious to get the water strider. That gives me so many great ideas.
Oh yes. My boat can turn on a dime, so I have to make the footage interesting. I plan many different takes spliced together. Actually, one of the takes will have a GoPro in the boat and will show the action from it's point of view. Several takes will even point back at the Phantom. I wanted...
Yes, In fact I used that for another video. I have only a 1080p so I won't get good quality if I zoom too much.
I have a large android phone. I wouldn't want to put it on the boat. I thought that the GPS phone had to be connected to the remote. I will look a bit closer at Autopilot to see...
I just reprogrammed my remote sticks and I really like that configuration. It's intuitive to me. It took me a long time to get used to the standard configuration because it didn't seem right. Now it's right!
2-3 feet all the time? That gives me a boost of confidence. BTW - I have to push the left stick to make my turns. Remember, 007 is trying to get away.
Very good advice. The practice part is a no-brainer. I intended to do that over a large grass field that is very flat.
An RC car? Hmmm...
>>> I would not dare a manual flight like this while on a shaking, bouncing boat.
I will not be in a boat. The pond is much too small for that. We will be controlling everything from shore.
I looked at the 32 reviews on Amazon. Great reviews for the concept, but not a single success story. The pond is an old rock quarry that is fed by the Boise River. It is very deep, so I anticipate that the device would deploy if I lost it in deep water. Any ideas what the cost would be for...
