If you fly as a hobbyist you can fly at night as long as you have lighting that can be seen up to 3 miles. I have been flying for 3 years and I always fly at night. It's a lot easier to maintain vlos.
Format the sd card as you no longer need it. Now you can take pictures or movies which will go onto the card. You can either format the card in a computer or use the Go App to format it in the bird.
Do any of the led lights come on at all? Try holding the power button for five seconds and see if any lights up. Also try pluggin battery in charger then turn power button on and see if that works. Its possible they sat for a very long time and may be no good.
If you left the battery in storage for a year without keeping it at least 50% charged chances are pretty good that the battery is shot. I wouldn't use it .
I am not a expert but it looks like you took off with 62% battery. Always take off with a fully charged battery. Taking off with 62% battery can throw off incorrect battery data.
You can get a compass app from GOOGLE PLAY. I have a Apple Ipad mini and had to get one from the app store. I agree with Meta4 about the radar screen and map not facing in the right direction
In this case the updated app either changed the settings or is not completely compatible with the RC. I would update everything. The battery update is very important. What have you got to lose at this point. Just my 2 cents.
Personally I dont believe reviews such as consumer reports, google reviews etc. You really don't know who really wrote the review. I have had 3 Phantoms and have only had very minor issues with them. DJI is above the rest of the other brands in technology. I have never had to use warranty...
I never heard of a refurbished battery. I would not even buy 3rd party batteries. Stick with OEM even though they are more money. This hobby isn't cheap! I buy mine at Best Buy knowing that I am getting a OEM. Just my 2 cents!
I would remove motor to see if crack went down in any further. Replacing top shell is real pain in neck. I would try a repair. I have had good luck on stress cracks using gorilla glue.
