I had the same issue after the firmware upgrade and found that the app settings had reverted back to default settings I had to turn off "calibrate map coordinates (for china mainland)" and one other I think and that seemed to fix it Might be worth a try

Yep, I bought a Syma X8W and had it for a week before buying the P3A The Syma was crap in a slight breeze so I got annoyed with it and bought the Phantom The Syma is still fun to thrash around though

Try it without turning on the remote control, It doesn't need to be on for the update and might be the issue

Pretty sure while it's updating the camera flashes red/green and beeps "D-D-D-D" When it's finished updating the camera light turns green and the beeps change to "D-DD"

Hi all First post here so be gentle :) I also updated to 1.9 today and no problems with a ten minute test flight I have only had my P3A a few days and just updated to 1.8 a couple of days ago and had no idea you had to do both batteries but I have this time Thanks for the info, Steep learning...
