The Phantom is to fragile ( the plastic specially around screws is falling apart) for fpv racing quad . you would spend to much time and money to fix ti all the time .Also accessibility is bit difficult.
Use it for regular practice .
I would suggest you to read the post again; his lights went dark ,that means no power.
What could have happened , he did't insert the battery all the way ( the click) and with vibration
the battery get loos and lost power.

I have posted several times warning regarding this battery issue . It is very risky (close monitoring of the battery level is critical) to fly on not fully charged or previously used battery even if it indicates around 90% of power left. The power level could drop in seconds ;I think this is not...
John I have one question .
After charging the battery ,did you interrupt flight ( finish one flight ,landed ,removed battery , reinserted battery for second flight)
and used the same battery for second /actualy last flight?
If using investor ,make sure it is "pure sine wave " ; I have one built-in in my truck and I am using phantom DJI charger with it .
This type of inventor is recommended to be used safely with electronic devices .

- you are saying the craft battery had 80% power; did you fly on this battery before remove it from craft and used it second time ?
- did you watch telemetry what was the battery status just before landing ?
