The next step for these things is to have DTED provided either by the attached devise or a built in database. That way they would know true AGL, not just barometric/GPS altitude from the takeoff location.
I guess it depends what architecture you have already invested in. I am using the Shield exclusively for the Phantom even though I have all iPhones/Macs. Didn't make sense spending three times more for the iPad Mini 4 Cell. I might switch over to the new iPad if it's amazing, for no other reason...
Three flights so far 20, 23, and 22 minutes all landing with 10% battery. The 23 minute fight was at 91deg but the A/C was in forward motion most of the flight.

Once it's cool and is able to charge it takes roughly an hour. Hopefully in the future there will be adapter cables to use aftermarket chargers. I have a nice Thunderpower I would much rather use.
So far so good. Used tap fly and flew toward my neighbors roof and it climbed to get over it. Then flew it toward my garden shed where it abruptly stopped about three feet short and gave a spoken audio warning via my iPhone.
