Thoughts about using an iPad 4 mini as a screen?

iPad mini 4 works great and I have them, but I prefer the 9.7 inch gen 6. On sale at Amazon for $249. The bigger screen allows my fingers to touch only one control at a time on the crowded display. :-)

    Thinking of using propeller guards?

It looks like propeller guards will see more use as the new Notice of Proposed Rulemaking from the FAA says no flight will be permitted over people unless the propellers are protected in some way to make them incapable of causing a "laceration" to a human. They significantly affect performance...

Tip to make propellers last longer

I have two homemade quads using 28" x 9.2 carbon fiber props that cost $311.00 per PAIR or $622 per bird and that does not include the obligatory spare pair, which I share between the birds. :-). They come in velvet bags and are carefully babied as the expensive jewelry they are! They do sit in...

    Oiling motors

Bearings need oil periodically, EVERY bearing except truly SEALED bearings. None of DJIs motors are sealed. I have a stable of DJI birds, P3P, P4P, multiple Inspire 1s and Inspire 2s, an S900, and 11 large hex and octocopters I have built myself to carry big SLRs starting in 2012. All the ones...

How to control Photo/Video file numbering on P4P?

Found my own answer. You have to edit (in Windows use Notepad, on a Mac use TextEdit) the file name in the four IDX files in the /MISC/IDX directory created when the card is formatted. Simply change the number only. Any other changes corrupt the file. Jim

How to control Photo/Video file numbering on P4P?

I have a P3P, an Inspire with both X3 and X5 cameras, and now a P4P. Keeping these from creating duplicate file names was easy before. With all the cameras previous to P4P I was able to put a card in the camera with a file name such as DJI_3000.jpg, set reset number mode, shoot a frame which...

    Prop balance rod

I just tried my DuBro standard rod and it fits perfectly! I have custom threaded rods for my P3 and Inspire. So happy to find I don't have to buy yet one more for my P4Pro. :-)

    Official P3 Range Leaderboard

This one is with my P3Pro, early model from first couple months production. COMPLETELY, TOTALLY stock system with lots of interference here in DFW metroplex. I would lose video about halfway out and found that a TV station had built a new weather radar on a 75 ft tower only 1500 feet off the...

    P3P freefall into ocean

I watched a prop fly off my P3P while on the ground about a year ago. I was going to let my grandson do a simple takeoff, hover and autoland. Apparently he found the RC and iPad heavy and it slipped in his hand jacking the the elevator forward and back quickly. When the reversal of control...

Proof DJI is lying to customers about H3-3D faults

I have a new v1.1 standalone H3-3D which does the same random snaps as the phototrekky video (mostly to right on mine) randomly while in the air. Switched from my faithful H3-2D since I was asked to shoot some aerials for an indie movie; wanted to up the quality with 3rd axis stab. We had to...

    More powerfull repeater?

Actually, the transmit power of the amplifier may be its lesser advantage. Even the small amplifiers with just 100mw output also amplify the received signal in the range of 12 - 15 db. With the weak signal from the Phantom camera, that may be the amplifiers most helpful contribution to prevent...

    Nexus 7

I have it running on my Nexus 10 just fine. When my Nexus automatically updated itself to 4.4.2 KitKat, I went to http://m.dji.net/djivision, downloaded a newer version and it updated fine with out changing any of my settings. Haven't tried the PlayStore, but others say it is up to date there...

    FAA just called me

The Hollywood movie studios are using UAVs in aerial cinematography every day. They love them since in movies like Fast & Furious they don't have to put a live camera crew in dangerous locations when a stunt might go awry. It just wipes out a copter that is cheap by their budget standards. So...

    More powerfull repeater?

You'll probably have to move the P2V about 50 feet away to be sure, since there is always signal leakage out of the system, even with the antennas disconnected. Makes antenna testing a pain in the WiFi world. If nearby, even if you unscrew the antenna from your transmitter, you are still...
