How did the retrofit of the RID unit go for this unit? Did you get it working?

Perhaps he was less on the "drone pilot" mindset and more "cool toy with good camera". Which is unfortunate for him and our hobby. They are fun, easy to fly, easy to obtain, inexpensive to purchase, none of which helps remind people how sensitive flying a drone can be.

Chris, I've only started tinkering with P3S units trying to repair gimbals with issues. Each I buy on ebay seems to have something different wrong. I'm in the process of trying to discard bad parts and reassemble fully working gimbals. So far, no great success, but also, little time... :-)...

AirData helps me track and manage my collection of (5) drones and (11) batteries. Yes, it shows my paths, but also multiple equipment health aspects, maintenance reminders, and more. AirData is indispensable for my droning.

I've got a few P3S here that work, and a working gimbal board, but the camera is dancing. I've compiled a list of things to check, but still some cams are dancing. 1) set screw on yaw arm tight 2) yaw arm positioned properly 3) pitch and roll spindles are oriented right against the pot 4) pots...

LenJ: help me understand... Your friend "can't fly" and is frustrated she needs to get a pass... Is the restriction valid? Or in error? If valid, are you suggesting you'd avoid the update to avoid being told you shouldn't fly somewhere? Update or not, wouldn't the restriction apply to that location?

Certainly I get it. As long as you are responsible and do what you should do, the update is not needed. For all but the most diligent, I think suggesting one avoid a vendor update out of concern they broke something critical might be hyperbole. But hey, if you don't want to update, don't...

I'd rather have the updated list to keep me legal and prevent issue to others. One button press vs perhaps flying where I shouldn't, or get a warning for something I wasn't aware of? I'll take it every time.

I'm new to this hobby, but seems the confusion is people focused on impacts to Drone pilots and safety, and not the large-plane pilots and travelers. It's a drop dead simple replacement. Four screws to open the remote, three wires to solder, quick and easy. (Just posting for those coming later and seeing this)

My mode switch is broken. Can I just leave it in F Mode and only use the functions when I need it? (Yes, I know I can replace it. Waiting for the replacement switch to arrive)
