Please ignore this. I just found out that the Remote ID feature is actually on my Mavic and has never been on my Phantom. Just getting old I guess..

I just updated my firmware because of a controller error and noticed that the ability to not transmit your ID (remote ID) seems to have been removed quietly on the latest firmware. I’d not heard anyone mention this anywhere up until now. Can anyone else confirm this or has it just been moved...

Hi! I do have the P4A Plus but since I’m talking about distance flying, I thought that the 5.8gHz part of the transmission signal was largely irrelevant. As far as I understood, the 5gHz signal was mainly for flying close by in congested WiFi areas as the 5gHz bands are usually a lot less congested!

The wavelength at 2.4ghz is 12.5 cm. As far as I know (and I fully admit that my physics is old!), if the focal point, where the antenna is, is less than this or not a multiple of this number, you WILL get destructive interference of the signal because the reflected signal will be out of phase...

Well, today I flew without the parabolic reflectors. Got out to nearly 1700m and then the signal went to 2 bars. I quickly slipped on the reflectors and immediately the signal went to zero and the display went to black and white. I removed the reflector and immediately, the signal went to 2 bars...

Thanks both for the detailed comments but setting these aside for a moment, do you think that any form of destructive interference is possible between the reflected and directed signal? I’m just trying to work out if any sight variation in anntenna positioning between different manufacturers...

How do you establish that they are ‘true parabolics’?

I dunno man. It’s not a great idea to draw attention to your drone up in the sky anyway. Could lead to people objecting that it’s there in the first place.. May as well hold up a sign saying “I’m up here and I’m watching you!”

Yeehaw, It’s the bowler hat and moustache that’s on my Phantom that causing the lack of range! Seriously though, I am in the UK and I’m flying near a beach where there’s not much in he way of interference. I’m not sure what you mean by “rotating the antennas many times”. I didn’t do that and...

Hmm, if I was getting 2-4 miles, that would be great but 600-800m is what I’m up against!
