We recently repaired our Phantom 3 Adv after a wreck smashed up the gimbal. We 3d printed a part to hold the camera in a steady state, but removed the gimbal entirely (see photo). It seems like the gimbal is essential for some of the image transmission as now we are getting no gps signal...
