Haven't got either, but have spoken to a UAV flight instructor who has, he says the downfall of Mavic is that after about 300ft you can't see it because it's small, also you get a fisheye effect with the camera.

Pilot error in that he didn't attach the props properly yes, but they can fall off without pilot error too. Just illustrating the chaos a malfunction could be, especially if you were over a congested area...

It's perfectly fine to take the drone in the carry on luggage but it was a question of space for me. I was willing to take the risk with the phantom in the hold luggage as my SLR cameras in my carry on are worth considerably more than the phantom; -)

I've got the same filter kit and I've done it. It was fine. I wouldn't personally want to do more than 2 though

You can stack the filters, so using a ND4 and a ND8 would give you an ND32 (you just times the numbers together), which will reduce light by 5 stops, which is usually enough for brightish daylight.

Haven't experienced this before, but I would say do a few test flights with the drone where you can't hurt anyone or anything if it falls out of the sky. I'm sure someone will direct you to upload to phantomhelp.com uploader, so you might as well do that now and post it back here.

You're correct, there's lots of info about the rules, especially with regards to US domestic travel, do a quick search. I'm Europe based but I have no problems when I pack the drone in my hold luggage and carry the batteries in my carry on.
