Is this area okay for a calibration?

This is the way I've done it, too. No problems in flight at all. Just don't stand near power lines, giant metal poles or cement with rebar.

    Who Uses a Launching/Landing Pad?

Since I'm a photographer by trade, I always have my tripod with me. I use a Manfrotto slide projector table attached to a quick release that fits my tripod head. The built in levels on the head allow for quick leveling and the Phantom fits perfectly. For landings, I hand catch with the wind at...

    Damaged lens, Repair or Replace?

Not trying to rain on your parade, but water can leave nasty spots on the lens that you won't notice until you install it and take a look at some photos taken with it. It MIGHT be OK, but there is a good chance that it won't. Just an FYI. X2 on buying a "defective" camera and swapping lenses.

    Vision camera dpi count

DPI is Dots Per Inch. Thus, it is a relationship between the ACTUAL print size and the number of pixels (dots) in your image. Thus, you can have two images, both 600x400 pixels (dots). If you print that photo 1 inch WIDE, the final PRINT has a resolution of 600 dots per inch. Print it 2 inches...

    FC200 Camera Version ?

And make sure you have formatted your micro SD card IN THE CAMERA FIRST. Then do the camera update. It's worth it, IMHO. The jpegs out of the camera are garbage compared to the raw files.

Takeoff Platform, Especially for Rotorpixel/Gimbal users

Nice! Keep the ideas coming! I like how everyone is sharing their own solution that has worked for them!

Takeoff Platform, Especially for Rotorpixel/Gimbal users

My clients might not always want me digging up their nice green lawns. :- p I never know what the terrain is like until I get there. The nice thing is that I never launch too far from my vehicle. Plenty of storage and I don't have to carry it too far. If you're hiking or carting your case...

Takeoff Platform, Especially for Rotorpixel/Gimbal users

Yup, I was using two 1" x 2" pieces of wood before. But I knew it would only be a matter of time before I left them behind one day. This solution always gives me a level takeoff site, although those foam pieces were probably cheaper than a new platform.

Can't Enter Compass Calibration Mode Anymore

Not really helpful to solve your current problem, but how far do you travel? I've had mine more than 30 miles away (as the crow flies) and it's been fine. I think if you travel over 100 miles or more, you might want to do a new calibration. But over to the next town or so shouldn't need it...

Takeoff Platform, Especially for Rotorpixel/Gimbal users

Because everyone likes pictures! Explanation: This is a Manfrotto (old geezers in the USA remember Bogen! LOL!) 183 Aluminum Projector Platform. I put a quick release plate on it and mounted it to my tripod head. This allows me to create a LEVEL takeoff platform ANYWHERE, even on the side of...

    RotorPixel Gimbal Technical Discussion

I finally got to fly my Rotorpixel for the first time this morning. X2 on what others were saying RE the weight. It is really noticeable. Controls are more sluggish and the craft definitely has more inertia and flies as such. I don't have an estimate on flight times yet, as this was a short...

    Time Stamp

Time/Date stamp is sooooo 1989. LOL! As mentioned, it's in the EXIF and IMHO it always looks pretty cheap when the time/date is stamped on the photo.

Flying in very high latitudes - Alaska

HOW close to the north Pole? Alaska is a big state! LOL! Seriously, I would do the compass calibration when you get there. Then try a LOW ALTITUDE test flight and be ready to switch to Attitude mode.

    Rotorpixel gimbal for Phantom Vision

Order #469 is ON ITS WAY!!!! :D I guess I'll be surfing the Technical Discussion thread in a week or so!
