I absolutely agree. I froze mine at 1.6 or 7, and since my tablet is dedicated I didn't update the app or the Android system either. Works just fine in its current state, and I'll leave it that way. DJI is in a hurry to try and make updates that have caused problems while they are in a panic...
You can also use an app called AZ Screen Recorder on your Android. I'm using it on a Nexus 7. It will run in background and record whatever is showing on screen. You can turn it on/off as you want like a video camera.

I have been using the Nexus 7 (2013) which I got off of Amazon. It works fine. The only issue I have occasionally is with the 3dr apps, not DJI Go app. I have to uninstall and reinstall the 3dr apps for my solo. I use it for both drones.
