But is FPV even legal in the US?

How could anyone think they can use goggles and not have someone monitoring the airspace around them visually, seeing the big picture? That is surely a recipe for disaster.

    Helicopter meet Phantom. Phantom lost

I spend quite a lot of time in helicopters all over the U.S and in my experience there is an unofficial cruising altitude of 500' that helicopters fly at. It keeps them out of the way of fixed wing aircraft that are usually above 1000' unless in airport traffic areas.

    Helicopter meet Phantom. Phantom lost

And it's only a matter of time until it does.

End of hobby flying in USA?

I agree a license should be mandatory to fly a drone outdoors. I still think the chance of a LEO finding a drone operator are slim to none without a transponder of some kind. I would bet almost everyone who has a drone also has a cell phone, so I don't understand that being an excuse. But I do...

End of hobby flying in USA?

Yes, I was a member with my father in law who was an avid R/C pilot. I built a few but didn't have the time to really pursue it as much as I would have liked. It was and still is a great hobby.

End of hobby flying in USA?

Reading a few other forums on here the other day, I found many people have already mentioned the transponders solution. I thought about the ATC issue when I brought up transponders, and was thinking if it only showed up if the drone was more than 400' AGL (or unless within 5 miles of an...

End of hobby flying in USA?

The transponder that I spoke about doesn't require a cell or wifi connection. I used that as an alternative. I think a few of you over reacted to what I think is a sensible solution to keep the sky safe from idiots that will ruin it for all of us eventually. Is there is any other way to enforce...

End of hobby flying in USA?

If no connection is available I see no issue to let the drone fly as it's probably safely in a remote area, (class G airspace, unless near a very rural airport). Enforcing laws is dependent on identifying the law breakers. How can they do that if there is no way to track and ID the offending...

End of hobby flying in USA?

Wouldn't a simple solution be a transponder in every registered drone? I was told by a very experienced pro drone operator (one of the pioneers), that there is a tiny transponder solution coming available. That way every flight is monitored and if any break the law, they can be tracked down to...

Converting DNG files to more common extension for canvas prints.

Adobe should have a free DNG converter program you can download from their website. Of course using a raw converter like Photoshop or Lightroom will give you more control of the look of the images. That is the purpose of having a raw file to begin with rather than a Tiff or Jpeg. If you're new...
