Your mileage may vary depending on where you fly it. I ordered the pigtail adapter for$5 and got a 5db omni directional antenna at frys. This mod is $20 and it more than doubled the range I get when flying around other wifi networks. When I get out away from interference I've been out to 3600 ft.

That is true. I saw on Craigslist the other day a v3 controller, 4 propellers, 700 range extender, 2 batteries and hard case for $250. People all across America will be selling these as losing their birds is a common occurrence.

It is worth noting that by modding the range extender you will be voiding the warrantee for everything else.
