I'm glad to say the flex ribbon cable fixed the problem, nerve wrecking fiddly install but Camera gimbal back to normal and phantom ready to fly again!

Thanks, I have ordered a new one of those and it's ok it's way here. Using a YouTube video as a guide I've already taken the camera/gimbal apart so I know what I've got to do when it arrives.
Thanks mate. The ribbon should be here Thursday next week, bought the genuine dji one rather than the cheaper copies. Have a good idea about what it all looks like so I'll let you know how it goes. Also spoke to a shop who said they were happy for me to pop down (3 hours away) if i have no luck...
Yes I am and when it goes through its calibration the app thinks it's done and complete. But the camera/gimbal hasn't moved or made a noise, just flashes green and is just hanging. It completes the initial one at start up and then losses power or perhaps instruction.

I have checked the grey cables, unplugged and reconnected but unfortunately it made no difference. I see the ribbon cable is significantly cheaper than a whole new camera/gimbal unit so it may be worth heading down that route.

Indeed. The furthest i have achieved is 4.5km with only a cheap 3d printed windsurfer. Everything stock. Same thing, turned around because of battery probably had another 1000m in it, just didn't want to push it. 9km round trip is more than satisfying.
What firmware are you using?
Upgraded mine a little while ago to 1.3.2 and the most recent go version at that time and it was junk. Constant drop outs and disconnections, down graded old school to 1.1.9 and the pilot app 1.10 and it has been happy ever after.
