I always thoroughly preflight all systems the night before I'm going to fly. The other thing is maybe he could hook up his P4P to DJI Assistant directly to the computer and refresh or reinstall the firmware.
I used a 9.7 iPad for awhile then switched to the new Mini 5 when it came out and am happy with it. I wear tri-focul glasses (bummer) and thought I would need the 9.7 but the Mini 5 is working out just fine. Actually better.

I like D-Cinelike or Blue for the color profiles. Have been shooting Blue to get better sky colors. Also set WB to conditions, never auto. Also dial down sharpness (-2), contrast (-2), and saturation (-2) and then adjust in post. I also use Polar Pro rotatable- ND4/PL, ND8/PL, ND16/PL Filters.
