I had a lot of trouble getting connected, with the app only showing the option How to Connect, so since I finally got it working I decided to post here in case anyone else is having trouble. This was with the newer GL300B remote which won't allow updates via sd card, not sure if that matters...

Not sure about the app, I usually just watch the rear LED's, or look at the number of locked satellites in the app, once it reaches 6 you should be ready to fly.
Both of the pictures you attached have been modified and possibly cropped.
The island is 1500x971, the other is 1242x883. None of the phantom options are for that low of a resolution so these have been resized. The island picture is a 3:2 ratio though, so they probably had it on the Medium...
