You might be getting the weak video signal just due to pointing the antennae
I leave my remote sitting on the flatbed of my truck and don't move it much
I launch and leave in a straight line and keep the remote pointed at it
I wouldn't turn back until you are at 60% battery and have a tail wind...
Location is everything
With DBS mod, external batteries, and amps on my P3 standard I can go over 6 miles at a very remote location on the south end of my ranch.
Now if I go back to town I've had times with the DBS mod and amps that I can't go 2000'.
Phantom 3 Standard
DBS panel
5.8 amp
2- 2.4 amps
2 batteries on remote to power amps
External batteries on bird dual 1600 batteries
Best run so far is 6.08 miles out
Over 12 miles round trip 25+ minute flight
That's what I'd do. You will need a battery pack also. Luckily the battery pack has two outlets so if you decide to add a 5.8 amp you'll already have power.
One 2.4 and one 5.8 is fine
It doesn't matter which 2.4 port you use.
Just FYI
I got over 15000 with just the DBS panel before I got a return to home
When I flew the 6.08 miles I never lost signal and had almost full signal the whole time. I would not have turned around at 6 miles but I am...
Well the P3 Standard was a gift. It be bad taste to sell it. So I'm having fun seeing what I can do with it. It's only money right?
The way I see it now is even if I had a pro I'd be getting the same distance.
only thing I can figure is i powered the amp up before I had the antenna connected. my remote is a mess, 3 amps, 2 battery packs, and the antennae hanging off it
