You don’t mention firmware version. I brought my P3P out of retirement recently after 5 years of storage and pretty much all of the random issues after a battery refresh were fixed by upgrading to the latest firmware. It feels and flies like it did when new.
Washington must be one of the greatest places to live and own an AP ship. Having said that, going pro takes some determination. Photojournalism, fashion, video all have challenges and take conviction and hard work to succeed.

I deal with a lot of off-shore technical support and in general, they are less likely to hand hold and more likely to follow a script. Having said that, the instructions are pretty clear.

Most likely stating the obvious, but you did remove the protective plastic that covers the lens on a new P3? I wouldn't have flown my first pack this way, I promise :confused:
3DR have had their share of manufacturing problems and be prepared to spend a lot of time learning about and programming their product. The Solo might be a different kettle of fish, but I've spent some time with APM:Copter, and it is anything but plug and play. I would prefer to fly and shoot...
