They're 8mp. I've personally found that the GoPro is sensitive to the card used in this mode. I was trying it with an Ultra, but had all sorts of issues. Started using an Extreme Pro and seemed to work just fine.

Yes - I have a Hero 3+ Black and it has the option of being able to do time lapse (5 seconds or longer) simultaneously with some video settings. But seeing that people are having issues with Ultra cards doing 1080p alone, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that I'm having trouble doing them...
