Flying With A 360 Camera Attached

The vibration was pretty bad for video and I also found there was a lot of swaying back and forth which is not pleasant in VR goggles. When the Phantom is sitting still there is less sway, but it is still present. I have not tried some kind of gimbal system which would be the only real way to...

Flying With A 360 Camera Attached

Last Wednesday I prepared and attempted something that needs to go back to the drawing board for a minute. I have a DJI Phantom 3 Pro flying machine and I have a Ricoh Theta S 360 degree camera, so in my head I decided to combine the two. I have a 3D printed gimbal guard on between the landing...

low battery after only 16 minutes

16-18 minutes is a pretty standard flight time for the P3, bringing the battery to 20-25%. It is rated for 22 minutes I believe, but that is if you were to push it right from 100% to 0% -- obviously not recommended. Rarely do I bring the battery below 25% but I have noticed that that last 25%...

Save your money kids... (If you're a P3 owner)

The flight time is not that big an increase, remember that we are supposed to get 24min out of the Phantom 3 which is more like 16-18. The faster motors and 120fps are the only things that have me climbing the fence, but I am not quite on it yet. Obstacle avoidance, hidden gimbal, lock-in props...

What computer are people using for 4K editing?

My desktop is a little overkill for 4k as it was designed as a gaming machine, so it was a little pricey because of the graphics card which doesn't do much for Adobe Premiere Pro anyways. For a full build, looking at between $1500-2000 depending on the graphics card you choose and the amount of...

    Very loud beeping constantly

If you stop the firmware update before it is finished, sometimes when you turn it on again to try the firmware update again it will beep the entire time as a warning that it is still working. This can last upto 20 minutes sometimes.

    Regrets

I am also a techie that loves the new shiny thing, which did land a Pro in my lap. I have 4k tvs and monitors and enough processing power to edit it up, but I have found the main advantage is when you are making content for 1080p displays. You now have a lot more content in your videos to work...

    Expected Phantom 3 Lifetime duration?

Just a note, the Phantom 1 was released 3 years ago last month and there seem to still be quite a few people flying those (based on the forums) so I would say lifespan is at least 3 years...and involves a heavy discount as the new ones comes out.

shut off LEDs for more battery?

It can be turned off in the app because some people don't like the fly with it on. The same way the front lights can be turned off if you prefer to fly without them. I do believe you are right though because if you are flying at 100ft and then fly over the roof of a house, the VPS takes over...

    Expected Phantom 3 Lifetime duration?

It was a couple years later, but the first computer I ever programmed on was also the TRS-80 Model 3. I was 5 or 6 years old and was making circles that would infinitely bounce off each other in differing speeds depending on the colour they hit and playing the text based dungeon crawler...

    Expected Phantom 3 Lifetime duration?

That was a good assumption and proven case leading up to this point, but that is because the use of multirotors is just graduating past infancy. The planes and helis I have had over the years have lasted 5-10 years before I replaced them, but there was a lot less as far electronics go. The...

    Expected Phantom 3 Lifetime duration?

As has been mentioned, P1 and P2 are still in the air without problems. The only real reason to get a new one every year is for the upgrades (range, camera, power, etc). If treated properly, these things last for many years. I have an RC helicopter that I have had for 7-8 years now that still...

    Cold IMU calibration.......wow

Used to take at a minute to a minute thirty to go from power to ready-to-fly. After bringing it's temperature down to about 5°C and doing the IMU calibration, it now takes about 15-20 seconds from turning on the bird to having it in the air.

    Need Two Screws

Always good to use something like Loctite Threadlocker which will prevent screws loosening from shock and vibration. I use Blue on my drones because it does not bond as strong as the others do which means you will still be able to unscrew them if you need to.
