    AVIATION HANDHELD TRANSCIEVER

Three. Got mine in the early seventies.

Flying in class B airspace as a recreational pilot

As been pointed out in this thread, the Boston Logan Class B surface extends out to 8 NM. (I remember when it became a TCA - the classic "upside-down wedding cake").

Illegal to shoot down drones - duh!

Playing devil's advocate here, it's fairly common to institute TFRs around legitimate LE/public safety activities (think aerial fire-fighting over wildfires). The FAA likely views this as protecting legitimate LE/public safety activity from interference in a potentially hectic airspace rather...

    Question regarding Airports/Helipads

Your sectional is your friend. If you have a commercial license under 107, you can fly in Class G airspace without being required to notify or request authorization from anyone. Most E surface or more restrictive airspaces don't stretch as far as five miles from the airport.

Drones flying on less than 4 motors.

I think we may be underestimating the complexity of this problem. You lose a prop, the first (and often only) thing that comes to mind is the lift imbalance, which you can sort of deal with by feathering the prop diagonally opposite the failed one, with the loss of most directional control...

    Birds and drones, scientific study

Some thoughts: Regarding the gentleman on the west coast having problems with ravens, I'm on the east coast, haven't flown my P4 much (yet), but I often hear crows (related to ravens) squawking loudly. It's always a flock of crows hassling a hawk. Dunno the evolutionary imperative that led to...

    Motor Condition Monitoring

Just one thought: collecting peak frequency/peak amplitude data may not really warn you about imminent failure. When a bearing starts to fail, .it's most likely going to signal its distress at a low-amplitude subharmonic of the motor's primary frequency.

Anyone done the ghost hanging from drone thingy?

Just strap a Donald or Hillary mask to the front of your drone. Either way, you'll scare the bejeesus out of approximately half the people you encounter :)

Mavic vs P4 on photo quality

PeteM - The choir you're trying to preach to is not in the church. You represent possibly .01 percent of potential users of either P4 or Mavic, if that many. Your constant interjections in this thread are noise, not signal.

    Phantom 4 Pilot Age

BTW, I'm a leading-edge baby boomer. My father was discharged from the Navy mid-December 1945, I was born mid-September 1946 - do the math :) I suspect that as hordes of baby boomers leave the workforce, we're going to be looking for interesting things to do with our free time, and playing...

    Phantom 4 Pilot Age

Turned 70 week before last. Turned gray abruptly at 40. Had a popular product in the early Mac market, with my pre-gray picture on the box and in the ads. At trade shows people would accuse me of being an imposter.

P4 Gimbal vs Feiyu Tech 3 axis why so different

Check out the DJI Osmo, or a similar device announced by GoPro as part of the Karma system (don't know if the stabilizer gimbal unit is/will be available separately). Looks like chest mount might be problematic with either, but I'm sure you could rig something that would work.

Terrain following flight using P4 sonar

You might want to have a look at the new DJI Mavic, which has a height-above-ground mode.

My Phantom 4 decided to Land in the Pacific Ocean

Fresh water per se will not damage electronics. I remember a visit to the GRI Computer facility (an early DEC wannabe) in the 70s when their president, Sam Ochlis (recently deceased), showed off the final stage of their QC process: they ran all of their circuit boards through ordinary...

Flying in or around Boston, MA

Just skimmed this thread, and may have missed it, but I haven't seen anything much about the Metrowest area (specifically Sudbury, where I Ilive). Saw a video awhile back of drone footage in winter of the town center - it was amazingly beautiful. Dunno who made that video - haven't been able...
