    So Long

I don't use my Phantom 3 4K very often nowadays and I also spend more time on the Mavic forum, but I still drop by here once a week to keep an eye on things.

    First Post for a While

For various reasons - work, weather, etc I haven't flown my Phantom 3 4K for a while. Yesterday I took it a few miles from home to the coast and shot this video.

Completely rookie from the Canary Islands

Welcome neighbour. I live in Lanzarote and I fly a Phantom 3 4K and a Mavic Mini.

Very nice. I've flown over the area and was once stuck in Madrid Barajas airport for 7 hours, but I've never visited - I think I should. Pity the sailing boats about half way through didn't have the breeze that was apparent in the preceding frames.

The North-west coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Yes, it is a caldera, but it is several million years old and close to a beach with the northeast trade winds blowing towards it, so the crater is just an uninteresting bowl filled with sand. Much more recent eruptions just a few miles away are visually much more interesting, but they are...

The North-west coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands

No, they aren't all the same. The most northern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have the least vegetation. The small island of La Palma is predominantly forest and is very beautiful indeed .

Lava and grape vines in Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Thanks for that. I've tried to follow your advice and changed the video for an edited version.

Lava and grape vines in Lanzarote, Canary Islands

That information about Croatia is interesting. The last major eruption here took place from 1730 to 1736 and it covered an area of 200 square kilometres, producing mountains that previously didn't exist and increasing the size of the island by quite a few square kilometres. There was a...

    Ireland

Very nice. It took a while, but I found the location on Google Maps (I obviously have too much time on my hands at the moment).

Lava and grape vines in Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Yesterday was a cloudy day but I had a spare hour with nothing to do, so I took my Phantom 3 4K about 5 miles from home and had a short flight, despite the poor light. The area I went to shows how volcanic eruptions in the past led to lava flowing over previously fertile land. You can see spurs...

The North-west coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Blue? That's sacrilege. I think if I wanted to do that I'd have to move to Fuerteventura, the next island in the chain.

The North-west coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands

The main industry is tourism - or at least it was until Covid - 19 reared its ugly head. As you suggest, fishing is also important, as is grape cultivation for wine - Shakespeare often mentions Canary wine and Malmsey (a wine made from the Malvasía grape). Lanzarote is one of the Canary...

The North-west coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands

This is a selection taken from half a dozen videos taken with my Phantom 3 4K over a period of several months and edited together during the current lockdown, which has been among the tightest in the world over the past several months.

That is by far the best edited video I have ever seen on this site - congratulations on an excellent piece of work. I only have one small comment - the Isle of Wight is a lot closer than 35 kilometres from Hampshire; it's closer to 3.5 (3,5).
