EDITED by Moderator: Every rule broken!

Having seen characters like this in the past when I worked as a volunteer ski patroller (and quite a few autopsies as a pathologist), I can attest that they usually fail the Darwin test eventually. Sadly, they usually take someone else along with them when they flame out or rack up lawsuits and...

    Upgrade my tablet

Lenovo Tab3 P8. It has a Snapdragon 625 which is faster than the Apple A10 and only cost me $150 through Gearbest. Low memory of only 16GB but you can add an SD-card so not a real problem. It runs DJI Go and Litchi fine. It is also bright enough, maybe better than my "old" iPad Air2.

The PD checked my FAA numbers on my Drone !

I am glad the inspection didn't go the wrong way. I do agree; however, that there must be a "probable cause" for checking your registration just like any other citation would require. They cannot just ask you to show your papers or registration without some legal reason which would hold up in...

    DIY Phantom floats

Yes, I saw this a while back and it makes some sense. It is the GetterBack Home

    DIY Phantom floats

Another one which probably weighs a lot less.It will still have the same issues with wind though. Those who wonder why you might want to do this would be to be able to recover the drone while sailing a sailboat. I have not yet mastered the ability to catch a Phantom 4 while under sail. That...

Breaking rules to fly above Fog?

I do it fairly often for dawn photos but I generally start from a point above the fog. I also use the very high intensity Strobon strobes which has helped me immeasurably to keep the Phantom in sight even up to 3 miles away. In thin wispy fog you can still see the strobes without problem. So...

Can you fly into a national park from outside park boundaries?

From what I have observed there is zero enforcement if you are smart enough to stay away from people and not stupid enough to put it on the internet. Also, if you stay near boundaries and definitely away from airports or low flying corridors for tourist flights then it will be difficult to...

    FAA bans....

I think it is the typical over-reaction. Anyone who wants to can fly a kite or launch a small tethered balloon with cameras attached to get real time intel and they would be perfectly legal. Plus, as usual, bad guys don't follow laws so this is another dumb idea which is more meant to pacify...

    Connecting to Litchi in midair

This is interesting to me. I very rarely use the DJI App and typically only use Litchi to fly. Last week I was on a trip to Tuscany and it was working fine but on the 4th day I was trying to fly a mission with Litchi and it would load then do nothing. I tried to hand fly the aircraft and it...

Lost my drone in the Arctic

Thanks, I am getting closer to doing this. I have ordered a Xiaomi Mijia Sphere 360 Panoramic camera and planning to get a racing drone or alternatively an RC plane for getting 360 videos. I haven't yet decided which is better for me. The price is roughly the same and if one adds Ardupilot (or...

Any reasonable priced drones that can go 40 miles?

That's an excellent question. How does anyone do it today even staying relatively close? Personally, I followed some excellent advice here and put stobes on mine so now at least others can see it if it is in their way and I can actually find it in the sky now even out to 5 miles. They really...

Any reasonable priced drones that can go 40 miles?

    Here's another which went 203km.

Any reasonable priced drones that can go 40 miles?

I am surprised no one mentioned an RC plane. Planes are inherently more efficient and can carry much larger loads. Here is one example which went 80 km.

how far away can you actually see your uav ?

Thanks for the strobe idea. I hadn't thought or read about those and it seems like a very good idea. I couldn't find any that just replace the ones on the P4 so went with the Flytron strobes and ordered the Flytron Cree standalones and will 3D print holders to mount them onto. I want to be seen...

Undecided first time buyer: P4P or Mavic

I own a Phantom 4 but I flew a friend's Mavic on a trip to the USA earlier this year. I keep my Phantom 4 in a backpack and have hiked with it through some pretty rough territory but the entire backpack is filled with drone stuff and there is little room for anything else. The Mavic is much...
