Try adjusting the ISO number. Either set it to auto mode or when lighting conditions are poor use a higher ISO. ISO is essentially the camera sensor's sensitivity to light. Practice with that and remember using the higher ISO means grainier photos.
If you don't mind buying a used/pre-owned unit, make sure to check craigslist in your area. I bought my P3P with two extra batteries, a case and three lens filters for $650.
