Do you stop recording before you shut down the phantom? If you don't, the video file will not be closed properly. Sometimes when I forget it, I just startup the phantom, start recording, stop recording and shut down the phantom. That will rescue some of the recorded video.
I am facing the exact same problem. With Windows 10 I also get the "Upgrade Failed" message. I have tried the firmware upgrade on a laptop that didn't have the DJI software installed before the windows upgrade, and that one failed as well.

One short push shows charge level, one long push, the battery status. To power up, you should press the button twice, one short, then one longer, until power up.

The longer screws sounds like the cause here.
Another word on the subject:
I would remove the props when storing the phantom inside the case.
Even if they would fit inside, they could be deformed by uneven pressure and cause some disturbing vibrations in flight
