AP news today. Idiots flying near wildfires giving drones a really bad name.

Concur! As a southern California resident, I shudder to think about those firefighters flying aircraft that low to fight fires. This is one case where no quad flyer can argue that planes fly high enough for vertical separation and deconfliction. Purely stupid, selfish amateurs.

Credit card blocked my DJI on-line purchases

Isn't it more likely that DJI is declining the card? Perhaps DJI has had trouble getting paid from these banks or the fees are above market norms. I just have a difficult time believing banks would single out a manufacturer.

FAA Releases Drone Registration Location Data

The OP obviously didn't look at the file long enough to see it only lists the number of registrations by zip code... all the other content in his post is obviously extremist paranoia....

Proof the FAA is watching our YouTube videos - and how to check

Sorry MK, you give yourself far too much credit, but this is hardly PROOF the FAA is monitoring your YouTube channel. It's more likely a quad enthusiast, or beer enthusiast who works for the DOT visited your channel. The fact it sources from an eMail server might imply the visitor clicked on a...

My P3P crashed, DJI not cooperating

My apologies, and duly noted, own the proverbial egg on my face. What was I thinking... You must have a GPS tablet to use follow me mode. I cringe to think of the repercussions here. but will man up and own my mistake. This was not the original question however, which was how the app knows the...

My P3P crashed, DJI not cooperating

I have a plane jane, non-cellular/LTE iPad and I fly with the radio off. All the intelligent flight features operate. The only GPS available to the app is via the quad's on boar GPS. No where in DJI's technical material is there any mention you must have GPS on your device.

My P3P crashed, DJI not cooperating

With all due respect, that is ridiculous. My tablet doesn't have GPS, and if, as you say, my Phantom controller doesn't have GPS either, how do all those feature you say won't work without GPS on my iPad seem to work just fine without GPS?

My P3P crashed, DJI not cooperating

I'm pretty sure that is not the case... my iPad has no GPS or cellular, and I turn all radios off when I fly. How would the controller get any location data from an iPad that has no location awareness? Answer: it doesn't. My guess is the controller and quad use the WiFi signal strength and...

Just lost pro 3 in the ocean.

Exactly... so... "The net-net of the entire thread should be, always take off with a 100% charged battery. DJI is clear on that." A Guide to Understanding LiPo Batteries.. A must read for quad pilots.

Just lost pro 3 in the ocean.

I read the entire thread and I'm looking at the log, 15.837V, 3.8V/cell at TO. That, by every definition in electrical engineering theory, is nominal for a 15.2 "rated" battery. You can continue to try and make that the argument, but that isn't the argument. The net-net of the entire thread...

Just lost pro 3 in the ocean.

Unless we know the actual measurements taken and the algorithms DJI uses to calculate battery use and condition, it's pointless to make assumptions on how battery management is accomplished. I was merely stating electrical fact (Ohm's Law), current and voltage are conversely proportional and...

Just lost pro 3 in the ocean.

Why take any risk? I mean really? DJI clearly warned us long ago that battery performance is not reliable/predictable if you take off with a less than fully charged battery. Lesson: Always charge your batteries to 100% before flight. If we don’t adhere to that recommendation, DJI isn’t liable...

An Insightful Look at Drone Legalities in the US

I concur, it isn't an easy task. So many times we read the FAA bashing episodes here without consideration for the magnitude of the task. Really, the FAA has nothing better to do? They should just drop all the really important stuff they do to develop policy and regulation for hobbyist or...
